Geschiedenis van de Old Queen
In 1932 the ‘Old Queen’ was build in Groningen. It was used on the northern lakes for special trips and was able to hold up to 90 passengers. It was used for this purpose until.....the war started!
To keep it from being claimed by the German invadors the owners sank the ship during WWII.
After the war the ‘Old Queen’ was brought up from under the water.
It was bought in 1996 by its present owners and restored to its original condition with a lavatory as an addition. During the restoration works a couple of “Douwe Egberts” coffee cans were found containing a treasure: they were filled with thousand guilder bank notes!
Since 1998 the ‘Old Queen’ is a well known attraction in the historic canals of Amsterdam.
